How Casa Zanoni chose Woola packaging to protect its fine food products

Casa Zanoni is a modern Italian gourmet brand created by Chef Simone Zanoni, who shares his passion for Italian cuisine through creative recipes and products.

Their product range offers a variety of Italian delicacies, ranging from essential pasta to cheese, charcuterie, olive oil, vinegar, as well as various sauces and condiments.

Not too long ago, Casa Zanoni used bubble wrap to protect their products during shipping. Fast forward to today: Casa Zanoni has sent more than 4,000 parcels with Woola packaging, replacing a total of 3,200 m² of bubble wrap with wool. With this, we have also saved 681 kg of wool from going to waste.

Here’s we collaborated with them to make it happen.

The search for compostable packaging

In 2024, Greta Brugnoli, the General Manager of Casa Zanoni, attended the LUXE PACK Edition Speciale trade show in search of a compostable packaging solution. The goal: to replace cardboard boxes lined with bubble wrap for shipping fragile products such as olive oil and sauces.

Greta’s motivation for making the change was simple: “We were looking for compostable packaging because I think this needs to be the future.”

It was during this visit that she discovered Woola's range of products at our booth.

“We immediately liked Woola's packaging solutions and their approach. Moreover, it matched perfectly with my search for a biodegradable product.”

Real-world testing to make the final decision

Following the trade show, we worked with Greta to find the right packaging that would fully meet the brand’s needs and expectations.

Greta and her team carried out several tests, with Wool Envelopes, Bottle Sleeves and Wool Sheets, which were all tested in real shipping conditions. Casa Zanoni sent out orders using these new packaging solutions to a sample of loyal customers to gather feedback.

“This is how we operate — we have customers we’ve known well for several years. Whenever we make significant changes in our process, we ask for their opinions and feedback to see what could be improved,” Greta said.

Why Casa Zanoni chose Wool Sheets

They ultimately chose our Wool Sheets, which proved convenient for packaging bottles and jars of different sizes.

“It's so easy to use the Wool Sheets. They can be cut to size, and their format adapts to different shapes. Customers liked the look, and most importantly, despite being thin, the protection is excellent.

We tested Woola’s packaging with our most fragile items, and everything arrived in perfect condition.”

Wool offers multiple advantages. In addition to its shock-absorbing and moisture-absorbing properties, it can be reused and recycled in various ways.

Greta tried composting the material in her at-home compost — and confirms it works. “It's biodegradable and decomposes perfectly well,” she said. In fact, wool also releases useful nutrients to the soil as it degrades.

“But customers also use it for other things, like keeping pets warm. To me, it’s truly the best solution,” Greta concluded.

Twice a year, Casa Zanoni sends out a customer satisfaction survey. Feedback has been very positive, and Woola’s packaging solutions, used to replace plastic, have won customer approval.

“Our customers loved the switch from plastic. They see it as a conscious choice.”
